National Constitution Center: Celebrate Herstory

Celebrate Herstory is a project designed for the National Constitution Center to help them bring people into the museum to learn more about voting and elections. The National Constitution Center wants to be known as “America’s Election Headquarters”.  I chose to go back in history and compare women’s suffrage to our right to vote today. I have created a three-day weekend event titled ‘Celebrate Herstory’ that takes place at the National Constitution Center. At this event, women’s suffrage will be recognized and highlighted. I want people who are visiting the National Constitution Center to remember the importance of the 19th Amendment ratification. It is also important to remember what the suffragettes went through to achieve their right to vote.

My strategy for my topic is including photography from the 1800s and colorizing it to represent the celebration of voting. I chose to name the campaign Celebrate Herstory, creating play on words with history and herstory. In my poster series, I used a gradient among three posters that goes from black and white to fully colorized. This gradient effect represents the struggle and the full color represents the celebration of voting.
